AIMT’s HND in Geotechnics & Geology trains students in soil mechanics, site investigation, rock mechanics and applied geological surveying — preparing graduates for field and laboratory roles in construction, mining and environmental projects.
This HND program focuses on the principles of engineering geology and geotechnics, combining field investigation techniques, laboratory testing, and practical site analysis. Students learn how to evaluate soil and rock behaviour for foundations, slopes, and earthworks.
The HND Geotechnics & Geology runs over two semesters per academic year with practical lab work, field assignments and a final applied project.
| First Semester | Credits |
|---|---|
| Introduction to Engineering Geology | 3 |
| Soil Mechanics I | 3 |
| Field Investigation Techniques | 3 |
| Geological Mapping & Survey | 2 |
| Geotechnical Laboratory Methods | 2 |
| Second Semester | Credits |
|---|---|
| Soil Mechanics II & Foundation Engineering | 3 |
| Rock Mechanics & Slope Stability | 3 |
| Geotechnical Site Investigation | 3 |
| Environmental Geology | 2 |
| Applied Project / Field Report | 3 |
Students spend significant time in the field for site investigations and in geotechnical labs performing classification and strength tests. The final applied project demonstrates practical competency for industry tasks.
